Ingredients of Dal ARHAR with Tadka
- Take 1 cup of arhar dal washed soaked in water overnight.
- It’s Pinch of Hing/asafoetida.
- Take to taste of Salt.
- Prepare 1/2 tsp of haldi (turmeric powder).
- Make ready 1 tsp of oil.
- Prepare of for tadka.
- You need 3 tbsp of desi ghee.
- You need 1 tsp of zeera/ cumin seeds.
- You need 1 of onion chopped finely.
- You need 3-4 of garlic cloves grated.
- Take 2 of dry red chilli.
- Prepare 1 of tomato chopped finely.
- Prepare To taste of Salt.
- Take 1/2 tsp of haldi/ Turmeric powder.
- Prepare 1/2 tsp of red chilli powder.
Basically, dal tadka is cooked lentils which are tempered with oil or ghee fried spices & herbs.Toor dal (or arhar dal) was made in my house everyday.So obviously when you go out, you don't want to eat what you anyway eat everyday.Dal Tadka on the other hand uses a lot of ingredients and spices, making it a special dish.
Dal ARHAR with Tadka step by step
- Take a pressure cooker, add dal & all given ingredients..
- Add water accordingly so as to keep dal a lil thick..
- Place the lid, give 6-7 whistles. Lower the flame now, cook it for 5-7 minutes..
- Remove it from the flame, let it cool, keep aside..
- Take a pan or wok, add ghee, heat it..
- Add zeera and, let it splutter..
- Now add dry red chilli, sauté it for a while..
- Add onion, stir fry it until light brown..
- Add garlic & salt (lil), sauté it for a while..
- Add tomato now, also add lil water, stir fry it. Cover it with the lid, cook it at low flame till tomato becomes mashy..
- Open the lid now, add haldi powder & red chilli powder, again add lil water, increase the flame, stir fry it until oil has oozed out..
- Pour dal into the tadka masala, mix it well..
- Give a boil, lower the flame, cook it for 5 minutes..
- Switch off the flame, take out in a serving bowl, garnish it with chopped dhania patta..
- Have it in main course…
