Ingredients of Barnyard Millet Pongal

  1. You need 3/4 cup of Barnyard Millet.
  2. Make ready 1/4 cup of Moong lentil.
  3. Make ready 1 tablespoon of ghee.
  4. It’s 6-7 of black peppercorns.
  5. It’s 1/2 tsp of cumin seeds.
  6. It’s 1/3 tsp of Himalayan salt.
  7. Make ready 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder.
  8. It’s 1/4 cup of cashews.
  9. Prepare 1/2 tsp of grated ginger.

Heat ghee in a pressure cooker.Add in dal, roast till golden.Add in millet along with water and salt.Barnyard millet is said to be the fastest growing millet which is gluten free and highly nutritious.

Barnyard Millet Pongal step by step

  1. Peel the skin of ginger and grate it into small pieces.
  2. Roast the cashews in ghee until just light brown color.
  3. Take barnyard Millet and moong lentils and soak it in water.
  4. Take all other ingredients in a small bowl.
  5. Add Millet and lentils in an instant pot and and add 1.5 cups of water and add cumin, pepper and ginger to it.
  6. Close the lid of Instant pot and set it in “Pressure Cook” mode for 6 mins and switch it “On”.
  7. After the cooking is done, open the lid and add salt and turmeric to it. At this point add roasted cashews to it as well.Mix it well with a wooden spoon. Serve it hot with your favorite chutney. Or eat by itself..
